not really sher how you would protect them im sher you could find seals or covers for them...as for cleaning them my dad has this machine that has a small gasonline cleaner mix or something in it with a brush on it that he brought from work and it cleans bearings real good in not sher what its called tho...you could use a wire brush that u could get at home depo and some wd 40 to clean them
